HDKaraoke HDK BOX 2.0 Review
The HDKaraoke HDK BOX 2.0 is a slim and portable karaoke machine that is different than most traditional karaoke systems. Instead of playing CDs, CDGs, DVDs or any type of disc, this machine relies on streaming karaoke songs from the internet.
When it comes to the design, the white HDK BOX has a nice design and a high quality feel to it. It is a very simple design with support for 2 microphones at the front, which can be either wired or wireless. On the front is also the power on/off button. On the back, you can find all the connections and outputs you need: audio, YPbPr, CVBS, optical, HDMI and LAN. Along the side, it has a USB port.
The online library of songs can be accessed via Wi-Fi (WLAN) or Ethernet-cable (LAN). However, to have access to the songs in the library, you have to subscribe or pay per song. When it comes to the subscription and web-based library, some people really like it, some don’t. It gives you the option of either paying $9.99 per month and let you stream all the songs you want in their growing library, similar to a Netflix subscription. The library is reported to have at least over 7000 songs, and more songs are added frequently.
The alternative to the subscription is to pay per song. This is similar to iTunes. You pay $0.99 for each song you want access to. Whether to go for the subscription plan or the pay-as-you-sing option, you have to consider how you will use this machine. If you plan on having karaoke parties with lots of friends who want to sing all kinds of different songs, then the subscription is the best alternative. However, if you plan to use it only for your home entertainment and you have your few favorite songs you like to sing, then you should probably use the pay-per-song.
However, with the purchase of the HDK Box 2.0, you get 1-month free subscription (value $9.99) so you can invite all your friends, throw a karaoke party and test the subscription before you make a decision.
There is also another alternative: The box has a USB port and supports the MP3G format. So if you already have karaoke songs in an MP3G format, you can connect your external USB storage device and play those on your HDK Box.
In addition to all these features, there are add-on services available through HDKaraoke’s service, like singing lessons from singing coaches if you find that interesting. You can also record your singing to a USB device, or you can share it on social media directly from the machine itself. The HDK BOX 2.0 updates regularly.
